What can be consigned or donated?
Clothing items must be clean, seasonable and in style. If you are consigning, we have to be able to put a minimum price of $5.00 on that item. Sometimes, items can be combined together in a group, but you will need to discuss this with the marker when you bring items into the store. We are not able to take large appliances or furniture.
What may I consign?
Items that are consigned must have a thrift value of no less than $5.00. The items must be clean, in good condition, in season and in a current style. Clothing sells best if it has been ironed and hung on hangers. We DO NOT iron or press any items before putting them on the floor for sale.
At any one appointment, you may bring in 15 clothing items and 15 other items, such as dishes, shoes, pictures, bedding, etc. Shoes need to be clean on the soles and looking fairly new.
What happens to items that do not sell?
Items are donated to Rod’s House, Union Gospel Mission, Homeless Shelters, the YMCA, and other ministries in the Yakima Valley.
What happens to the earnings from sold items?
You will receive one half of the sale proceeds. The other half of the proceeds stays with St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church to be given as grants to community organizations such as food banks in the area, Noah’s Ark, Wellness House, Habitat for Humanity, and others.
The Plaid Door serves the community in other less obvious ways as well. From time to time, we hear of how a Plaid Door wardrobe helped a young job applicant make a good appearance at an interview or helped a mid-life entry student get through school or training in preparation for a new career. The Plaid Door is a favorite birthday and Christmas shopping stop for many families. Customers feel good about finding a Plaid Door bargain when they know how much the Plaid Door helps others.
Make shopping, donating or consigning at The Plaid Door one of your good habits in the future!
